Materials We Cannot Laser Cut or Engrave:
For the safety of our staff and to maintain the quality of our equipment, there are certain materials we do not laser cut under any circumstances.
- Brass
- Copper
- Foam with Unknown Composition
- Quartz
- Coated or Painted materials (Unknown Coatings)
- ABS:
Tends to melt rather than cut cleanly, leaves a terrible edge, and has a high tendency to catch fire. - PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride):
Emits toxic chlorine gas when cut, which is hazardous to breathe and rapidly corrodes our machine parts and optics. -
Nylon:
Often melts and catches fire easily in the laser bed.
Why Are Some Materials Unsafe for Laser Cutting?
- Toxic Fume Emission
- Poor Thermal Behavior
- Reflectivity Issues: Copper and Brass
- Fire hazards
If you have a specific material you want to test or cut, tell us what it is called or what you plan to make, and we can verify if it is safe to use.
If you are unsure about the exact composition of your material, please contact us before requesting a quote or you provide us a MSDS (Manufacturer Safety Data Sheet).
